iBasso Kunlun: Pioneering GaN Desktop Amplifier
iBasso Kunlun explores GaN applications in an afordable desktop headphone amplifier format. GaN FETs boast electron mobility (up to 2000 cm²/Vs) surpassing traditional MOSFETs and silicon transistors, demonstrating higher electron velocities and lower conduction losses at high frequencies.
GaN FETs have a significantly smaller total parasitic Miller charge (QGD) compared to equivalent Rds(on) power MOSFETs, enabling faster switching speeds. When applied to audio amplification, this results in improved transient response, dynamic performance, and control.
High Current, Low Internal Resistance
GaN’s ultra-low Rds(on) allows a higher current drive capability. iBasso Kunlun’s output impedance is as low as 0.12Ω and capable of accurately driving low-impedance in-ear monitors, delivering a dynamic, layered sound. This results in both high power output to drive the most challening headphones, while still being delicate enough for the most sensitive IEMs.
Equipped With 40 High-Performance Transistors
Kunlun utilizes premium components: 8 power transistors in the output stage and 16×2 configuration of the drive stage, totaling 32 transistors to build a super-large discrete amplification system. Compared to traditional op amp designs, Kunlun delivers several times more current output, providing greater dynamic headroom and reserve. The result is clearer detail and a sound that is both powerful and refined, combining strength with subtlety.


7400mW + 7400mW @ 32Ω
In balanced mode with a 32Ω load, each channel delivers up to 7400 mW, providing more than enough power to drive even demanding full size headphones with low sensitivity. Kunlun offers a strong dynamic range along with a spacious and well layered soundstage.
Linear Power Supply
Kunlun moves away from switching power supplies in favor of linear transformers paired with high quality voltage regulators. This approach delivers smoother power and a lower noisefloor. The linear supply keeps the entire analog signal chain stable and quiet, allowing micro textures and fine detail to come through with near zero distortion and a more natural, fluid presentation.
Comprehensive DC Protection: A Firewall for Your Headphones
A built in DC protection circuit monitors for abnormal DC levels and immediately shuts off the output to protect your headphones from damage, providing reliable protection for your gear.
Analog Adjustment, Digital Control
Kunlun uses high grade volume control chips from Texas Instruments to maintain excellent left and right channel balance at any listening level, with smooth and precise adjustments. It also features an analog potentiometer, giving users the satisfying tactile feel of traditional volume control.
A three-position stepped gain control allows hardware level adjustment to suit different headphone sensitivities, helping reduce noise and distortion while preserving a clean and natural sound.
CNC Aluminum Chassis
The chassis is precision CNC machined from aluminum alloy and finished with an anodized coating for a hard, scratch resistant surface. Its clean, classic design highlights a refined metallic texture.
The top panel is designed for effective heat dissipation, and together with an optimized internal layout, ensures stable and efficient operation even under high load. This helps prevent overheating that could impact sound performance.
