HiBy R4 -Quad DAC Class A At An Affordable Price
The HiBy R4 is an entry-level HiFi digital audio player with emphasis on ultimate price-to-performance ratio, while sporting a unique industrial design and a favourable balance of smooth operation, excellent sonics and a rich, intuitive user experience. Suitable for modern and popular music styles, it brings a well-based sonic experience that is enjoying for long-term listening.
Cyborg-inspired Industrial Design
The HiBy R4’s unique design language hails to such elements as cyberpunk, mecha, and space opera. Clear-cut powerful geometric lines cross to form the sihouette of a living, breathing audio machine, with the offset hatch design on the back adding to the motif of a retro classic set in the distant future.
A sturdy lanyard lug coupled allows for personalisation as well as practical usability in ourdoor / active scenarios.
4-way ES9018C2M DAC array with PCM / DSD dual Customized Conversion Pathways
Sporting an unprecendent-for-the-sector set of four separate ES9018C2M DAC chips in a matched array, the HiBy R4 has indubitable fidelity in digital-analog conversion, yielding higher resolution and wider dynamic range from any source file, bringing smoother, purer sound.
The R4 supports native playback of DSD up to 256 and PCM up to 32bit/768kHz.\
For the first time in a DAP, PCM and DSD conversion pathways are seperated on the R4. The R4 features individually configured / designed DAC chips, LPF and power supplies for PCM and DSD conversion.
Flagship Grade Processing Power and Android 12 with SRC Bypass
Utilizing the Snapdragon 665 SoC with its 8-core CPU, the R4 runs multiple apps smoothly and speedily completes complex music library and audio processing tasks alike, bringing smooth operation and a high quality usage and listening experience to users.
R4's Android 12 OS ensures excellent compatibility and stability, all mainstream apps and music streaming apps run smoothly.
Android sample rate conversion bypass with Hiby's audio quality optimised OS architecture ensures bitperfect playback of your music.
Class A Amplification for Bountiful Drive Power
Utilizing widely acclaimed class-A amplification throughout, the amplifier is composed of four OPA1652, 2 OPA1612 and 16 triodes, and has zero crossover distortion for instant transient response; output scales up to 525mW at 32 Ohms, with distortion as low as 0.0005%. The R4 delivers a fine sense of power from music as well as exquisite detail.
High Resolution Display, Long Battery Runtime
The R4 features a large hi-res 4.7” Sharp LCD screen with 24 bits / 16.7 million colours. A 4500mAh battery yielding up to 11 hours run time on 3.5mm SE output, over 675 hours standby, as well as long run time under heavy screen / CPU / wireless use.
The R4 uses a quad-DAC configuration with four ESS ES9018C2M chips running in a dedicated arrangement, with separate conversion pathways for PCM and DSD signals. It supports PCM up to 32-bit/768kHz, native DSD up to DSD256, and MQA up to 16x unfolding. Dual independent femtosecond crystal oscillators help keep the signal clean and low-jitter throughout the decoding chain.
The R4 features HiBy's MSEB (Master Sound Engineer Balance) system for intuitive tonal adjustments, alongside a full 10-band parametric EQ. Crucially, both work system-wide — meaning they apply to every app on the device, not just the HiBy Music player. This means you can use your EQ settings while streaming from Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, or any other app. A system-wide bit-perfect mode is also available for those who prefer an unaltered signal path, and the device supports third-party audio plugins to further extend its tuning capabilities.
The R4 runs HiBy OS built on top of open Android 12, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 665 processor with 3GB of RAM. Google Play Store comes pre-installed, so you can download any Android app including Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Apple Music, YouTube, and more. The device has 32GB of internal storage, expandable up to 2TB via microSD card. You can switch between Pure Audio Mode (music-focused, locks to the HiBy player), standard Android mode, USB DAC mode, and Bluetooth receiving mode directly from the notification shade.
The R4 houses a 4500mAh battery with a rated life of up to 11 hours, though real-world use at higher volumes through the balanced output typically lands in the 7–10 hour range. Charging is fast via USB-C with PD 2.0 support up to 20W. Note that using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth simultaneously will reduce battery life, and the Class A amplifier runs warmer than typical designs, which also has a modest impact on endurance.
Yes — the R4 has a fully functional USB DAC mode that works with computers, phones, and tablets. Simply connect via USB-C and switch to USB DAC mode from the notification shade. It operates with zero latency and no dropout on the first moments of audio, making it suitable for video and gaming use, not just music. On the wireless side, the R4 also supports two-way Bluetooth 5.0, meaning it can act as a Bluetooth DAC/amplifier receiving audio from your phone or PC via LDAC, aptX HD, aptX, AAC, HiBy's own UAT codec, or SBC.
