The Bathys is Focal's first wireless headphone and brings genuine audiophile engineering to a Bluetooth ANC form factor. At the heart of each earcup is a 40mm aluminium/magnesium 'M'-shaped dome driver — the same driver material and topology used in Focal's acclaimed wired headphones, handcrafted in France. Most wireless headphones are tuned primarily around perceived loudness and bass impact; the Bathys is designed around accuracy, dynamic range, and natural timbre. The result is a headphone that sounds convincingly close to its wired counterparts, even over Bluetooth with ANC engaged.

The Bathys has three listening modes. Silent Mode activates full active noise cancellation, blocking out ambient sound for focused listening or travel. Soft Mode is a gentler ANC setting that reduces environmental noise without fully isolating you — useful in offices or on public transport where some situational awareness is helpful. Transparency Mode uses the external microphones to pipe in ambient sound naturally, so you can have a conversation or hear announcements without removing the headphones. All three modes are switchable via the earcup button or the Focal & Naim app.

Battery life varies depending on how you use the Bathys. With Bluetooth and ANC active you get up to 30 hours, extending to 35 hours when used in wired passive mode via the 3.5mm cable. In USB-DAC mode the battery lasts up to 42 hours as the headphone draws power from the connected device. Charging is via USB-C and the Bathys supports fast charging — just 15 minutes on the charger delivers around 5 hours of playback, and a full charge takes approximately 3 hours.

The free Focal & Naim app (iOS and Android) gives you a 5-band EQ with three saveable presets, so you can dial in different sounds for different genres or headphones pairings and switch between them instantly. The standout feature is the integrated Mimi Hearing Test — a clinically validated hearing test built directly into the app that takes around five minutes to complete. Based on your results, it generates a personalised sound profile that subtly compensates for any variation in your hearing sensitivity across frequencies, effectively tailoring the Bathys to the specific characteristics of your ears. The profile is saved to the headphone itself, so it applies even when the app isn't running.

When connected via USB-C, the Bathys activates its internal DAC and amplifier, bypassing whatever audio hardware is built into your phone, tablet, or computer entirely. In this mode it supports up to 24-bit/192kHz hi-res audio — a significant step above Bluetooth's bandwidth limitations — and the headphone draws power from the connected device rather than its own battery, giving up to 42 hours of use.
