Chord Mojo 2 2025 Refresh

  • USB-C charging and data connection for greater convenience.
  • New 4.4mm headphone socket, replacing one of the two 3.5mm sockets.
  • Independent output memory, each headphone output remembers it's individual Gain, Crossfeed and DSP settings

The award winning Chord Mojo 2 has been refreshed with a new 4.4 m headphone output and switchable USB-C charging. This new model still features all of what made the Mojo 2 such a ground breaking update to the original Mojo, including the world’s first lossless DSP, an advanced ‘digital tone control’ without any degradation in sound quality. The ‘UHD DSP’ gives Mojo 2 unrivalled compatibility with today’s wide-ranging headphones, plus unparalleled flexibility with partnering equipment.

A further key feature is the new menu system compared to Mojo 1, navigated via the new (fourth) control sphere, bringing mute, crossfeed, button-lock, switchable USB-C charging and tone control adjustment.

Compared to Mojo 1, Mojo 2 offers greatly improved battery management, with faster charging rates, a huge 75 % reduction in power loss, plus a 9 % capacity gain.

The refreshed switchable USB-C data/charging input adds greater flexibility, transparency has been greatly boosted, thanks to an improved noise-shaper, lower distortion and greater neutrality, plus Mojo 2 can even be taken wireless with the Poly streamer/server.

Encore!

The Mojo 2 is Chord Electronic's follow up to the Mojo, one of the most popular portable amp/DACs of all time. Tremendous output power, a smooth yet detailed DAC, all in a unit about the size of a pack of cards.

New Features

The Chord Mojo 2 features an upgraded FPGA processor and an improved 40,960 tap WTA filter, along with improvements to the amplifier output stage. The result is higher performance, lower noise and better transparency.

In a first, the Mojo 2 incorporates a 705/768khz 104bit DSP core, which allows for hardware EQ and crossfeed adjustments with virtually no loss in quality.

An improved battery system delivers higher efficiency with auto idle shut off, as well as an intelligent desktop charging mode derived from Hugo 2.

The Mojo 2 also now features both USB-C + Micro USB data input, preserving full compatibility with the Poly. Charging can be performed via the Micro-USB port or the switchable USB-C port.

Instant Classic

The Chord Mojo 2 features class-leading output power and detail at this size class. With up to 600mw power output and a vanishingly low 0.06 ohms output impedance, the Mojo 2 delivers effortless power even to low impedance, low sensitivity planar magnetics, while also providing a meatier, warmer sound to many low impedance IEMs.

With flexible input options including USB, optical and coxial inputs, or wireless input when paired with the Chord Poly streamer unit, the Mojo 2 is the ultimate pocket sized DAC.

Frequently Asked Questions

The 2025 update brings two meaningful real-world improvements to the Mojo 2. One of the original 3.5mm headphone outputs has been replaced with a 4.4mm output — worth noting this is not a true balanced output, but rather an unbalanced output on a 4.4mm connector, making it compatible with the growing range of headphones and IEMs that terminate in 4.4mm. Both the 3.5mm and 4.4mm outputs now have independent volume and DSP memory, so there's no need to readjust settings when switching between different headphones. The second major change is that the USB-C port now supports both data and charging — switchable via the menu — meaning you no longer need to hunt for a Micro-USB cable just to top up the battery. The price has not changed.

Almost every portable DAC on the market uses an off-the-shelf DAC chip from a manufacturer like ESS or AKM. The Mojo 2 is different — it uses a custom-coded FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) processor running proprietary digital audio technology developed by Chord's engineer Rob Watts over more than two decades. The conversion itself is handled by Chord's own Pulse Array DAC rather than a standard chip, fed by a 40,960-tap WTA (Watts Transient Aligned) filter running across 40 DSP cores. For context, most DAC chips use filters with 128 to 1024 taps — the Mojo 2's filter is orders of magnitude more complex. The result is a dynamic range of 125.7dB and a noise floor of just 2.7µV, with no measurable noise floor modulation.

The Mojo 2 has four digital inputs: USB-C, Micro-USB, optical (3.5mm), and coaxial. The USB-C port handles data from phones, tablets, and laptops, and on the 2025 edition also supports charging — switching between data and charging modes is done via the menu. The Micro-USB port carries data for use with the Chord Poly streaming module, or for connecting legacy devices. The optical and coaxial inputs are ideal for connecting CD players, TVs, or other digital sources. For iPhone users, a Lightning to USB-C adapter is needed. Android users can connect directly via USB-C to USB-C.

Battery life is rated at over eight hours, with real-world use typically landing in the seven to eight hour range depending on the headphones being driven and volume level. Charging is handled by a custom FPGA-based system that delivers 75% less energy loss compared to typical DAC charging circuits, meaning faster and cooler charging. For desk use, the Mojo 2 features an Intelligent Desktop Mode that allows the device to run entirely from external power without cycling through the battery — so you can leave it plugged in permanently without degrading battery health over time. Desktop mode is indicated by a purple battery status light.

Yes — the Mojo 2 is significantly more powerful than its compact size suggests, and is capable of driving headphones up to 800Ω. Output power is 600mW into 30Ω and 90mW into 300Ω from the single-ended 3.5mm output. Its output impedance is just 0.06 ohms, which means it maintains a completely flat frequency response even with sensitive multi-driver IEMs that would reveal colouration on lesser amplifiers. Combined with a 125.7dB dynamic range and no measurable noise floor modulation, the Mojo 2 is equally at home with the most sensitive IEMs and the most power-hungry full-sized headphones.
